Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

On The Way

One morning, on the way to the 12 x 12 event, I came across this unusual fantasy garden art.   I had to stop.

It's not every day that one sees a life-sized wizard and dragon!  Is that Kilgharrah and  Merlin?

Of course, no legendary garden would be complete without a pink plastic flamingo.

In the hellstrip.

Back around front.

Mural on the garage door.  Is that cool or what?

Let's get a closer look. Way cool the way the tree trunks in the mural look as if they're supporting the foliage of the fir above!  Is that a hobbit house back there?

Have a magical Monday everyone and don't forget to stop and explore fun surprises on the way! That is, when the heat subsides and you can bear to get out of the air-conditioned car.

  1. What fun to come across that unexpectedly! As for the heat, be grateful you won't have to deal with it for the next 2-3 months like we Texans will!

    1. Fun indeed. I am truly thankful that we don't have the kind of summer heat that Texan's do as summer is usually a great time for us to be outside working on the garden.

  3. Aren't murals fun! I especially love those 3D sidewalk murals that are all over the internet. This one on the garage is wonderful and magical, and ties in with the Merlin carving out front. The asian inspired bell would look even better if it was in my garden...

  4. What a great garden with even more wonderful garden art! The heat is supposed to break by Friday, let's hope they're right. I can't take much more.

    1. The heat is a bit much but the agaves are loving it! I got sick last week with a nasal infection, lots of coughing, lost my voice, so I spent some time lying on the couch for the last couple of days. I really want to get out there. Went to the Dr. yesterday and got some nice antibiotics so hopefully tomorrow I'll get out in the cool of the morning!

  6. That is quite impressive! Did you knock on the door? I think I may have had to...

    1. I could hear sounds of life inside but I didn't want to knock as a dragon might answer. On the other hand, the sign did say "Welcome to the Shire."

  7. If that place was stripped of all the eye-catching ornament, there's a grand garden in there. Closer looks reveal beds of beautiful pansies, a huge pink daylily clump, Japanese maple, evergreens, what looks from the street like a rhododendron in bloom, partially hidden hydrangea and more. Oh, and that enormous Clump of Calla Lilies.

    1. That's one of the cool things about it, there's both garden and fun ornament.

  9. What with the Hobbit house and the 'Welcome to the Shire' sign, it must be Gandalf and Smaug gracing the totem.

    1. Of course you're correct. I always get my dragons confused.
